Jeanie MeMullen Evaluator Mrs. Melissa Peppett Please offer afew brief comments in support ofthe teaching domains for this observation, Domain 1: Planning and Preparation Ms, MeMullen greeted the students a they arrived forthe day. Ms. MeMulen's cooperating teacher ‘was absent on the day of her observation. It was evident that Ms. McMullen knew exactly what o.do, At 8:45 am. students were arriving tothe classroom, Withovt hesitation students were hugging Ms ‘McMullen. One student commented, “love you" The students in this kindergarten classroom respond \wellto Ms, MeMullen. Quickly she reviewed with students thelr jobs ofthe morning (selecting lunch coice turning in thelr folder, nd unpacking). Ms. Mullen ran a very smooth entry this morning without any additional guidance from the substitte teacher, Ms, McMullen transitioned students smoothly nto ther morning work, She set the learing climate in the classroom by reviewing with students what yesterday was (Earth Day), Students shared examples about their learning from Earth Day. The warm up consisted of cing environmentally friendly pictures. Ms, MeMullen’ reading lesson began with segmenting and blending CVC words, The sight word ofthe ‘ay vas revealed to students, Students watched an engaging video on "OUT". Ms. McMullen include in her lesson multiple opportunites to interact withthe new sight wor (verbally, visually, and through ‘movement and song). Ms. MeMullen’s lesson plans ae well organized and thorough, She takes into ‘consideration students’ neds and selects highly engaging activites to meet the learning objective Domain 2: The Classroom Environment "Ms, MeMullen has developed an excellent rapport with the students in her kindergarten cass Her ‘early defined morning procedures allowed students the opportunity to begin thelr day successfully "Ms. MeMllen praised students fr fllowing her directions with espect to morning routines. Ms. ‘Metilen utilize effective cing systams such at *macsroni and choata” to which students responded, “everyone freee’. n an efor to hold students accountable Ms. McMullen assigned a quit helper to be the “Boss ofthe Day’ This student selected a buddy to take the envelop down tothe office, Throughout the lesson, Ms, McMullen implemented effective classroom management techniques to Increase student participation and engagement. She would often compliment students dung the lesson by praising them for siting quietly, folowing directions, an being quiet listeners. Ms. McMullen called students attention to thelr behavior chart and reminded them how thei lip would move up and down, Ms. MeMulle recognizes the importance of modeling for students how to maintain a nest and orderly ‘work space. Students were asked to take a few minutes to organize their work basket by throwing away any materia or place broken pene inher ar. Students were immediately praled and reinforced with 2 tiger stripe. Through deliberate and efficent procedures, Ms. McMullen prepared student forthe start ofthe instructional day. tis evident that she implements clear routines and procedures in the classroom that are appropriate fr the needs of har kindergarten students. In an efor to transition students to new learning activites, Ms .MeMullen invited students to join heron the carpet by ables and what they were wearing. Her uniqueness and connection with stents was exiting and engaging, Students enjoy lstening to Ms. Mentullen and talking with Ne |n summary, Ms. MeMullen has demonstrated evidence of maintaining excellent control of her classroom. She inspires stents, motivates, and engages young learners. Her energy Is contagious and students gravitate to her. She understands the importance of effectively sein cles rules and procedures for learners. She values and utlzes positive behavior supports in the classroom withthe intent to teach her students how to interact appropriately with other peers. Ms, McMullen should be ‘commended for her classroom management approach and how learners postvely respond to her asthe “eacher. Domain 3: Instruction "Ms. McMullen demonstrates the aby to plan for, deliver, and assess the kindergarten learner. During ‘this observation, she carefully selected concepts and ski that were appropriate and in sequence with the kindergarten curriculum. Ms. MeMullen modeled segmenting and blending eve words with her students, Students practiced replacing the intial sound in order to make a new word. Ms. MeMllen ‘reviewed the new sight word forthe day. The activites she planned aligned with the lesson objective anc provided students the opportunity to practice independent. The pacing ofthe lesson was appropriate for the needs of the students It's event that Ms.MeWullen can implementa well developed lesson utitzing effective best practices. Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Ms. McHtullen conducts herself in a most professional manner. She is a wonderful role model to students and has embraced her student teaching experience with confidence! She has attended activities and professional development sessions with enthusiasm. | have been extremely impressed with Ms. McMullen this semester. Ms. McMullen jumped rightn today as the teacher of recordin her cooperating teacher's absence. While there was a substitute in the room, the students went direct to Ms. McMullen for direction and guidance. If would have ‘walked into the room unannounced, | would have mistaken Ms. McMullen as the classroom teacher, She has rightfully fulfilled her student teaching obligations but most definitely resembles that of a seasoned teacher!
