Student Teacher Evaluation Checklist/(Comment Form:
Student Teacher: Miss Jeanie McMullen Evaluator: Mr. Joshua Detrich
Please offer a few brief comments in support of the checklist ratings.
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
Miss McMullen aligned all of her lessons to the PA Core Standards using the SAS
website. Her objectives were measurable, they held high expectations for all students.
Modifications were made for advanced and struggling students. Every lesson
contained a formative or summative assessment. Miss McMullen also incorporated the
resources available to her, including technology such as the Promethean Board and
Chromebooks. She designed and taught a unit plan on Earth Day for our Thematic Unit
that engaged students in visual, auditory, musical, and kinesthetic activities. | would like
to see Miss McMullen continue to grow in the area of knowing her students and their
specific learning needs and using those needs to plan her instruction.
Domain 2: The Classroom Environment
Miss McMullen quickly learned the procedures already established for my
Classroom and seamlessly incorporated them into her teaching. She managed all
aspects of the school day from taking attendance to bus dismissal. She established a
culture of mutual respect, and | noted positive interactions with the students throughout
her student teaching experience. She managed student behavior using our
schoolwide positive behavior system as well as through use of a behavior chart that
utilized both positive and negative reinforcement. Natural consequences were used to
address negative behaviors, and Miss McMullen was fair and consistent in managing
these behaviors. | would like to see Miss McMullen continue to grow in adding
techniques to her “toolbox" to gain student attention and redirect students who may
be off-task.
Domain 3: Instruction
Miss McMullen began each lesson by activating student background knowledge
and reviewing concepts taught in previous lessons. She offen used attention-getting
strategies to "hook" the students and engage them in the learning. Miss McMullen
adjusted instructional pacing, slowing down or chunking instruction based upon
formative assessment techniques used throughout the lesson. Miss McMullen ended
each lesson with an assessment, and she consistently provided closure to set the stage
for future learning. | would like Miss McMullen to continue to conscientiously provide
closure to every lesson as well as design discussion questions that reach higher Depth of
Knowledge (DOK) levels. :Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
Miss McMullen displayed the highest levels of professionalism throughout her
student teaching experience. She followed alll district and building procedures
including dressing professionally and communicating effectively with all staff and
parents. She wrote a letter to all families introducing herself and used Class Dojo to
share and celebrate student learning. | would encourage Miss McMullen to utilize a
communication app such as Class Dojo and a weekly classroom newsletter in her own
classroom. Miss McMullen participated in all staff and Title 1 data meetings. | was
particularly impressed that Miss McMullen asked questions to learn more about our
classroom and school procedures and culture. .
