Reflection: (What have you learned about your students? How will this inform future instruction?)
I chose this experience I thought that it would be a way to engage all the students in the room because it is a diverse group who has varying levels of

needs. I also felt that the experience would be meaningful for students because it would allow them to practice real life procedures that are meaningful to their daily

lives. This is something that not all students would be able to get at home, so it is important for them to be exposed to it in the classroom. I chose the materials in

the center based on the investigation topic of teeth. A toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss are materials that children should be exposed to and use in their daily lives.

I also included mirrors for children to look at themselves as they brush their teeth and cups for students to demonstrate rinsing out their teeth after brushing their

teeth. Lastly, I would include the play food and drink for students to be able to talk about what foods can make their teeth stronger and which foods are bad for our

teeth and overall health. In our class, there are a few students on IEPS and a student with spina bifida who is in a wheel chair. This activity is very open ended so

students who are on IEPS can be scaffolded through questioning so that their needs are met and students who are at a higher development level can be asked

more difficult questions. For our student in the wheel chair, there needed to be an open space in the dramatic play enter so that he can move around easily. This

activity engaged the students because they liked exploring with the different materials. The students need a lot of guidance and reminders about how to use these

materials safely. One challenge about this lesson, however, was that students did not stay engaged as long as I had hoped for. In my own classroom, I would have

planned to leave this center out for the duration of the investigation. If this was to be done the center would always need to have new materials coming in and out.

Some things that could be added could be things that students might see in a dentist office like a mask or a bib. Something else that I would have liked to include if

I was teaching this lesson in my own classroom would be a guest speaker to hook the students that is a dentist or a dental technician who could go through the

teeth brushing procedures with the class an answer any questions that the students might have had.
