To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great pleasure that I write a letter of recommendation for Sierra Shelburne. As
the facilitating teacher in the Blue Preschool program at the Child Development Center at Keene
State College, I had the fortunate experience of working with Sierra as she did her coursework for
Practicum 1 in spring, 2018.
Sierra demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills. She is organized, thorough and
punctual. She relates well with staff, parents and children as both a clear communicator and a
vigilant, compassionate listener. She works effortlessly to create respectful and engaging
environments that encourage positive social interactions, independence, and exploration.
Relationships with children and families unfold naturally for Sierra.
As part of her coursework, Sierra implemented best practices as outlined in NAEYC
standards by providing developmentally appropriate materials and designing creative activities
based on the children’s interests. Sierra demonstrates a working knowledge of child development
and is always excited to keep up with the latest research and literature.
Although Sierra brings with her tremendous knowledge and efficient organizational
skills, it is my bias that her real gift is her ability to reach children. Sierra has an unconditional
positive regard for children and this shows in her every interaction. She is nurturing, caring and
supportive while insuring safety, consistency and appropriate limits in a warm classroom setting.
Sierra emerged as a leader among her cohort of early childhood teachers. It was common
to see other students gathered around Sierra seeking her advice, feedback and support. She
demonstrates the leadership skills, creativity, knowledge and disposition to be an effective early
childhood teacher. It is without reservation that I recommend Sierra Shelburne for employment
in any educational setting. If you should need any further information or have any questions,
please feel free to contact me at (603) 358-2214.
Sincerely,
