OVERVIEW/ RATIONALE

Students will continue to prepare for their AP Government exam

ENDURING UNDERSTANDINGS/ ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

What impact does money have on campaign finances.


How might wealthy donors, PAC’s and Interest groups influence elections
with campaign finance.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES
Students will resume research on the impact of PAC’s and Super PAC’s on
political campgain finance and enegae in a strucutured academic conversy
debate with the opposing side.

Students will assess their knowledge of important Supreme Court cases that
will be tested on the official AP Government exam.

PROCEDURES

OPENER
Test (40mins)
Structured Academic Controversy

BODY OF THE LESSON


1. Students will come in, complete do now and prepare to take court
case exam.
2. After exam, students will break into SAC debate groups and resume
research for 15mins
3. After researching each team will take 3-5mins to present their
arguments
4. We will resume as a class to discuss pro/con points made as a whole
and discuss personal opinions regarding PAC’s and Super PAC’S role in
campaign finance.

Reiterate how influential PAC’s and SUPER PAC’s can be when donating to
politicans

ACCOMODATIONS
SAC guided handout, group activity, study sheet, index card.
