Strings 4/3

Lesson Agenda:

5 min: Regular check-ins. (How has your week been?) - This has become “give me one word to
describe your week” and then everyone will share one word. The most interesting words get a
story.

5 min: Unit 1 Test Prep: I will remind students what their unit exam will be and remind students
who have appointments today. They will have all week to complete the unit exam.
• Students will play the G, D, Em, C chord progression twice through
• Students will play the 2-octave G-major scale up and down
• Students are allowed to ask for feedback from both myself and each other before they come
up to be scored
I will then tell students that the timeline for completion is by this Thursday 4/4

5 min: Take out guitars/Set up: Students will set up their guitars for practicing.

25 min: Group work time: Now students may work in pairs or small groups, helping each other
on either the scale or the chord progression. All questions asked should be based in what they
are reading, rather than “is this right?” An “is this right?” question should be followed up with a
specific portion of the music.
Criteria for success:
• Tempo - can you play at the tempo you set?
• Rhythm - are your rhythms correct?
• Fingering - does your fingering match that of what we have discussed as a class?
• Posture - are you looking at the sheet music? Are you holding up the guitar correctly?
• Full sound - are you making adjustments to create the best sound? Are you aware of what
kind of a sound your instrument is producing (muted strings)?

Simultaneously, I will be pulling students who made appointments for today to take their exam
following the criteria above.
