Ideal gas equations are vital equations that are widely used in the field of Chemical engineering and

Chemistry, but just like most crucial equations they have a limit, they cannot cater for gases that deviate
from ideality. Gases that deviate from ideality gases are often referred to as real gases. When dealing
with real gases, virial and cubic equations of states are used to calculate thermodynamic properties for
both pure components and mixtures.

The Peng-Robison equation, which is a cubic equation of state, was utilized to calculate the
compressibility factor, fugacity and the specific molar volume of a mixture of gas containing methane,
butane, ethane and carbon monoxide. The equation was further utilized to calculate the fugacity of each
species in the mixture.

Sustaetha The phase with the lowest fugacity will be the most favorable; the substance minimizes Gibbs
free energyIt is useful as an engineering tool for predicting the final phase and reaction state of multi-
component mixtures at various temperatures and pressures without doing the actual lab test.1`40
