Vygotsky's social development theory

What Vygotsky tries with his theory, is teach us that social interaction is very important in

the development of cognition. He made a comparison with Piaget’s work and defers in how

the children precede their learning. But Vygotsky focuses more on culture affecting and

shaping cognitive development, in the social factors that contributes or in the role of

language. This theory says that the social interaction plays a fundamental role in how we

learn a language; therefore kids are very curious and actively involved in their own learning

and development of new understanding. Vygotsky also says that every function of in the

child’s cultural development would appear twice; first, on the interaction with other

individual, later, individually. We have to see how the child interacts with other human

beings to get inside their brain. We have to give a meaningful importance to the

intrapsychological of a kid. For this we use the MKO and the zone of proximal

development, where someone is helping you to complete a task or whatever we have to do

and not only by ourselves.

I really like this theory, because I think that is very important in a kid to have social

interaction, to learn how to deal and live with it. I have noticed that for some kids is very

hard to develop this function or ability, but even if it is hard, there always going to be

someone to help you with. Influences and relationships also shape our ways to be who we

are, besides we have our sisters and brothers and also our parents, we can say that there

always going to be necessary the interaction with other humans being to learn how to

differentiate what we like or not. Also that with the interaction we learn a lot from others

and sometimes others learns from you.
