and the growth of Veganism as a whole. Though
we can’t ignore the fact that there is a lot of hate
surrounding this topic. It’s not fair on the farmers
who earn a living of these agricultural trades to
be a subject to abuse. We need to remember
that farmers are people too, who have feeling,
and lives and they don’t deserve to be targeted
and called murderers. Both sides of this
argument have very strong opinions and the
unwillingness to meet middle ground will
continue the battle of are the farmers, right? Or
are the Vegans, right? From this process I have
learnt being Vegan is a very personal decision
and whatever influences you to make that
decision will be different from others. I don’t
know if protesting is the most effective way in
changing minds, yet if it does, I do believe it
should be done in a respectful manner and not
forced upon people. We all have the right to our
opinions and we have the right to disagree with
others.
EQUIPMENT LIST
ITEM WHY I AM USING IT
Canon 750d
This is the camera that I will be using to shoot the entirety of my documentary. The
camera will be shot with the standard lens that comes with the camera, 18-55mm
lens. I am using this as I have used this camera for all the projects I have made
previously and I am really comfortable now shooting with this camera. I will use it for
interviews, both on the streets and indoor, and B-roll footage of protests.
Things to remember:
- Adjust the white balance according to scene
- And bring extra battery packs just in case the camera runs out of charge
- And research into the right setting according to the filming location
Tripod x2
I will be using a tripod for my interviews. I will attach my cameras to the tripods in
order to get a stable shot of the interviewee which allows the shot to follow the rule
of thirds and look professional. Preferably I would prefer to use the more expensive
brands of tripods as they tend to have more things on them, for example the tripod
can extend taller by winding a handle. However, a smaller tripod would come in
handy when I travel to Brighton to experience these protests as it would be easier to
carry about and get out whilst the protest is happening.
Things to remember:
- Have two tripods to have one for a close up shot in the interview
- Take one for time-lapses for B-roll in Brighton
Microphone
I will need one microphone for the sound for my interviews. Depending on the location
on where I am filming it will defer what type of microphone I am using. For example,
an indoor interview will have a camera mounted microphone but an outdoor
interview will consist of a shotgun microphone held below the interviewer to pick up
only interviewee rather than sound. The microphone will make the sound in my
production a lot sharper and overall increase the quality for the audience watching
my production.
Headphones
I will need a pair of headphones so I can attached them to my camera and listen to the
audio of the footage I am filming live. By doing this I will ensure that the sound quality
for my production is good quality as I will be able to hear when things sound good and
when things don’t sound good. This means I will be able to re-shoot sections as I go
along and save myself time overall. I can also use these headphones later on for
editing and listening to the sound of my production, they will come in multiple use.
However, majority of the time I will be using the headphones with the shotgun
microphone on the streets, instead of the mounted microphone on the camera.
Studio Lights
I will be using studio lights for my sit down interview as I want to ensure that I am
lighting up the interviewee’s face completely, without any shadows. I also want to
make sure the whole scene is lit up correctly, with the right background lighting that
isn’t too harsh. I will use the research that I did on lighting and filming set-ups to help
use this studio lighting effectively. I want to use two studio lights as I want the light to
hit from different directions.
Light Reflector
I will be using a light reflector to bounce the light created by the studio lights into
specific section of the shots that might be lacking light or are darker than other
areas. Also, you can use the light reflectors to block the harshness of studios lights
and make the light set up appear softer and more subtle, this could be if you don’t
need that much light to make the shot look right.
Things I need to remember:
- I need a second person to help me if I want to use this object
- It’s really hard to put away, just for timing
