whether they are manufactured
by Covidien or another
manufacturer (universal).

NOTE: Insert the universal monopolar adapter completely into the “UFP” receptacle
• Give it a bump with the palm of your hand to fully engage the universal
footswitching adapter
• If not fully engaged, there is a chance of intermittent footswitching activation
When a lead or adapter is plugged into the universal footswitching accessory
receptacle, the Acc. Port tab is automatically selected on the screen.

With early software releases, users had to have the UFP adapter plugged in to enable all
footswitching operations; but, starting with version 3.0 software, footswitching could be done
using either the UFP or the Monopolar 1 receptacle.
Two ways to enable Mono 1 footswitching:

2. A pencil is plugged into the monopolar port and a footswitch is
attached to the rear of the ForceTriad™ energy platform. If the user
presses the footswitch, the following message appears, which
provides the option to enable the foot switching capability.

Banana Plugs and “Flying Leads”
These plugs have a different design. The banana plugs on the left
may be capable of pushing down the bipolar microswitches, but the
“flying leads” on the right can only be used with the bipolar adapter.

Both receptacles have a purple ring around them, but the LigaSure™ 1 device
receptacle has a purple footswitch icon and the LigaSure™ 2 device receptacle has
an orange footswitch icon.

Summary of Receptacle Activation
• Monopolar 1 & 2 – If the scanner senses any object, the Std Mono tab will be
displayed and the other two screens will dim.
• UFP – If the universal monopolar adapter is inserted into the universal

footswitching accessory receptacle , the Acc. Port tab will be displayed and the
other two screens will dim.
• “Valleylab” – The “Valleylab” tab will be displayed if the scanner reads the barcode
of an instrument that uses the Valleylab™ mode.
• Bipolar – Both microswitches must be flush to activate the screen.
• LigaSure™ 1 & 2 – These two receptacles must recognize an appropriate dot

pattern or bar code, otherwise you will see “Invalid Instrument” on the screen.

Power Zones and Slider Settings
 Five power zones for each output mode.
 Surgeon may select an alternate power zone using the touch screen.
 Surgeon uses the slider to select the desired power within zone.
 Manual option to select power levels outside the pre-established power zones to
accommodate unusual surgical situations. Anything higher than 8 (red zone) means
you have gone from fulgurate to spray.
