PLANNING OVERVIEW – TERM

Year Level Unit Title Salvation Topic Aspect of Human Development

6 Empowered by the Spirit Confirmation Love
Overview – explanation of the content of the unit and how it explores the Salvation Topic and development of the Human Person
This unit of work focuses on being empowered by the Holy Spirit to reaffirm our faith through the sacrament of Confirmation. Throughout the
5 weeks, students will be challenged to reflect, think critically, apply, analyse, act and discuss various components that contribute to the
overall sacrament. This teaching block enhances the development of the Human Person through critical reflection and driving students to
foster life qualities that would like to express within their daily life., to reflect the image and likeness of God. In order for students to maintain
and strengthen their faith, they must be educated about how to live life like Jesus did and be knowledgeable of how to apply this to real life
context. Students are exposed to a wide range of activities that will develop a coherent understanding of Confirmation. The plan, teach and
assess cycle is prevalent and will be utilised to ensure students are receiving the highest quality of Religious Education.

Catholic World View and Teacher Witness

According to the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (2019) “Those who have been baptised continue on the path of Christian initiation through the
sacrament of confirmation. In this way, they receive the Holy Spirit, conforming them more perfectly to Christ and strengthening them so that they may bear witness
to Christ for the building up of his body in faith and love.” (Rite of Confirmation, nn. 1-2). From a teacher witness perspective, confirmation is essential for developing a
rich and deep relationship with God as individuals are made accountable for their promises with God and the Church.
