Overview & Purpose: How to Add Simple Fractions

Objectives:
Have the students understand how to add fractions and why we need to know this.
Students will address where we find and use fractions in everyday life.

Information:

What is a fraction? What is a denominator and LCD. Students will need to know multiplying and
dividing for denominators.

Verification:

Verbal recognition. Ask questions. Make sure students have mathematical understanding of
everyday use of fractions. Also ask students what they want to be when they grow up and what careers
involve using fractions. Construction, cooking, etc....

Activity:

Work Sheets and Pizza Slices. Students will do problems on worksheet and ask questions if
needed.

Summary:

The knowledge of what fractions are and how to add them together. Students should know
what fractions are used for and ability to add them.

Materials Needed: Pencil, Paper, Cut out Pizza Slices
