To Whom It May Concern:

I had the pleasure to have Flavio De La Torre as a student in his junior year in my Health and
Family Living class. Flavio is a consistently hard-working student who does not waiver from the
personal or academic standards he sets for himself. Flavio dedicates himself to striving for his
academic goals. He currently has a total GPA of 4.17 and he is ranked 28 in his class of over 400
students. He has been a CSF member for all four years of high school. CSF is the oldest and
largest high school honor society in the state that emphasizes high standards of scholarship and
community service for high school students.

Flavio has been in the AVID program all four years. He was named AVID Student of the Year in
his freshman year. Being a student in this program has increased the effectiveness of his study
habits, note taking strategies, test taking skills, etc. AVID, Advancement Via Individual
Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by
preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. The program's philosophy
is to hold students accountable to the highest standards, provide them with academic and social
support, and have confidence they will rise to the challenge. Flavio embodies these characteristics
and it is evident in his work habits and in the way he approaches his education. His goal is to
pursue postgraduate studies in Biology and a future career as a doctor. Flavio has accumulated
272 hours at Mercy Medical Center in community service. This experience along with his fluency in
two languages, and his compassion will serve him well while working in a diverse community of
future patients and families.

Flavio’s flexibility to the challenges in life, his kindness and persistence will only serve to help guide
him through rigorous coursework and internal desires to fulfill his academic and career goals. If you
have any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,
