Product Abstract
Each student in the Independent Research program must carry out an authentic, advanced research project, which is
capable of evaluating the quality, authenticity, and novelty. The following information written by the student provides an
overview of the project proposal as planned.
Student: Mirabella Meoni Date: May 15, 2019
Research Title: The Impact of Conservation Photography.
Purpose: To inform student members of the photographic community of the opportunities in conservation photography,
and increase awareness ofits ability to effect change.
Expected Product or Outcome: A lesson plan designed to familiarize the audience with conservation photography and
photographers. This plan will include background information about photography, conservation, and an in-depth of the
three photographers the researcher interviewed. The Powerpoint and script will be given the photography teachers at her
school.
Novelty of Product: The presentation will help to better the the knowledge of photography students by passing on
gathered information in a way that will prove to be effective in the expansion of scientific knowledge. It is important to
share research results with others in the photographic community so that knowledge can be expanded, and awareness
spread.
Auudience(s); The proposed audiences will be the members of advanced photography classes at River Hill High School.
Process or Method:
1. Gather scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles from Ecology and Society, Environmental Education Research,

2. Receive guidance from an advisor, Karine Aigner, Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation
Photographers.
Review and choose premier examples of conservation photography and contact the photographers.
4, Conduct, record, and transcribe 3 primary source interviews with conservation photographers to attain information
cn their inspiration, struggles, successes, and conservation photography in general
5. Analyze data from interview responses; determine their philosophy on visual education and topic choice.
Interview the photography department chair, Mr. Jacob Cecil, and gather and synthesize information about
planning visual art lessons using Common Core for a tecnage audience countywide.
7. Design an interactive lesson plan that synthesizes the information compiled throughout the school year for
photography teachers to use with their students.
