Spiritual music in the medina
Established in the mid-90s
by anthropologist and writer
Faouzi Skali, this festival in
Morocco's spiritual capital is
vehemently pluralistic in its
outlook, bringing together
musicians and writers of many
faiths from across the world.
There are several impressive
performance spaces, from the
large, fortified Bab al Makina
and an Andalusian garden
to riads in the labyrinthine
medina. The Sufi Nights, which
conclude each evening, give
an opportunity to experience
several of Morocco’s diverse
Sufi brotherhoods. 2017's
edition includes performances
from Lebanese singer Yasmine
Hamdan, Aziz Sahmaoui and
Toumani Diabaté
