Title of Lesson Applications of Integer Operations
Subject/Course Math 7th
Lesson type Modeling Real-world
About the unit/Topic Unit 1: Integer Operations
2.1 Students add and subtract integers
2.2 Students encounter multiplication with integers. The goal for students in this
section is two-fold: 1) fluency with multiplication and division of integers and 2)
understanding how multiplication and division with integers is an extension of
the rules of arithmetic as learned in previous grades

Lesson Objective SWBAT

 Interpret sums of integers/rational numbers by describing real-world
contexts.
 Interpret products of integers/rational numbers by describing real-world
concepts

California Common 7NS.1d & c

Core Standards Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add,
subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
 Apply properties of operations s strategies to add and subtract rational
numbers.
 apply this principle in real-world contexts

7NS.2c
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of
fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers.
 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide
rational numbers.
7NS.3
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with
rational numbers.

Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices:

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in 6. Attend to precision.

Lesson Sequence

 Summary of  Warm-up- students will begin with bell work activity on one problem
task/activitie (5-6 mnts)
s  Hw check- class will discuss previous days homework
 Cooperative Learning Activity:
Students will be given various situations modeling a real-world situation applying the
characteristics of Integer operations. Students will work on for 12-15 minutes. They will
need to spend 4 minutes per problem and choose one problem to present to class.

1. Discussing Students’ Solutions

a) Students will display and explain their information using teacher’s
Ipad.
b) Facilitate students’ discussion.

Teacher will facilitate discussion among tables and groups by encouraging

students to use prior knowledge. Lastly, teacher will have all groups present to
the class their strategy on how to solve given problem describing a real world
situationwith a mathematical expression, a model and describing in words the
meaning of their answer.

Key Questions

closure 2. Summing Up
1) Review what students learned throughout lesson, abput how to use
the number line to describe a real world situation.
