Gatsby Essay

In the “Great Gatsby” essay by the Green Light it shows how gatsby wanted his

happiness back by having the certain women in his life. Gatsby was one of those people who

would never take no for an answer. In another persons perspective, you see that gatsby lives an

amazing, happily life, although deep down there is something missing that keeps him whole. The

only thing gatsby want is a girl named Daisy. Gatsbys expectations for Daisy is very high

considering he wants more from her like dropping everything she has in life to “live happily”

with gatsby. Gatsby was not poor so that could of been a main factor to his happiness but he

wanted more than that he wanted to be happy with the girl he loves and cares about.

To start things off, growing up was not very easy for gatsby considering he didn't have

much. Gatsby was raised by his mom and dad on a small farm in North Dakota. Growing up

adapting to that kind of lifestyle it encouraged and motivated Gatsby to change his life around

and become an ambitious successful businessman once he became older. As Gatsby became

older, one of his main focus was to be wealthy and successful, he was driven by that mentality to

the point where he had to fake a “rich persona” once he met Daisy because he knew she had high

standards. Gatsby believed even though he was raised in a poor lifestyle that wasn't going to

stop him from changing his life for the better. He believed that your social class could not define

you as a person or your lifestyle by obtaining a strong mindset that tells himself he is not done

working hard even when he thinks he is, he needs more.

To add on, it is very clear gatsby is in love with Daisy but unfortunately Gatsby knew

things would be complicated between them considering gatsby had to deploy for war. This

situation frustrated Gatsby because he knew he needed to be there for daisy in order to support

her daily needs, otherwise he would lose her. He then received a promise from Daisy that she

would stay strong and wait for him to return from war. Unfortunately once gatsby returned Daisy

was married with a happy life. Once gatsby found out daisy moved on that was not going to stop

him from being with the girl he loves. He was determined he could win her heart back. Gatsby

has a hard time moving on and realizing the past needs to stay in the past, he believes daisy is the

only key to his happiness and he will never be happy without her.

To wrap things up, Gatsby grows a sense of controlling within himself. Gatsby and Daisy

ended up reuniting their relationship and fell in love again. Having Daisy back into his life was

all he ever wanted to live a happily life but that wasn't enough for his happiness, Gatsby wanted

Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him and for her to forget all 4 years of memories she had

with him, Gatsby is showing signs of jealousy. Gatsby doesn't understand that Daisy cannot

easily remove the memories and love she had for Tom just because it mentally affects gatsby, he

needs to learn to move on from the past. In conclusion, Gatsby claimed that the key to his

happiness was to obtain Daisy back into his life but unfortunately he realizes that isn't the only

key to trigger his happiness.

As a kid Gatsby didn't have much but he was smart enough to know how to turn a poor

lifestyle to a successful lifestyle by making a risk and joining the war. He reminisces about the

memories him and Daisy shared and questions himself to why he can't recreate them with her

and have everything go back to his expectations.
