Rivers and Stream The flow of rivers and streams causes soil erosion. The water flowing in the rivers
and streams tend to eat away the soils along the water systems. When the rivers and streams are
full of soil deposits due to sedimentation and the soil levels up with the surface, the water ways
begin to wash away the soils at the banks.

Strong Winds Strong wind can cause soil erosion. Deflation is an erosion process caused by wind and
particularly in dry weather periods. The wind picks up the loose soil particles with its natural force
and carries them away to far lands. Hence, soil erosion caused of wind is a major source of soil
degradation and desertification.

Increase soil fertility Increase soil fertility occurs in sediment areas. Soil eroded upstream is usually a
fertile soil containing nutrients, such as N, P, K, and organic materials. These nutrients if brought
water to the sediment area can fertilize the soil.

Initiative and awareness Appearing of initiatives and awareness both from the government and
communities to conserve critical lands through reforestation activities.
