Question 1: Film Review

Across the Universe is an enchanting musical film by the famous American director Julie Taymor. It
is set in the 1960’s and its soundtrack, replete with the most wonderful Beatles’ songs, is its main
attractive. The plot presents a Liverpudlian young man called Jude (Jim Sturgess) who arrives to the
United States for the first time. As he embarks himself in this new adventure he meets Max (Joe
Anderson) and his sister Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) and falls in love with her. The love story starts,
filled with music and the psychedelia proper from that time.

If you are looking for a movie with plenty of dialogues and a complex plot, this is not one you would
enjoy. True to its genre, most interactions during this musical are done through songs, which is one
of the reasons why most characters are named after some of The Beatles’ greatest hits. However, if
you are a Beatle maniac, or even if you just feel moved by musicals and love stories, this is the
perfect movie for you.

Besides the soundtrack, the special effects of this film are outstanding. You can feel yourself
traveling with the characters in the Magical Mystery Tour Bus and being embraced by the colors,
sounds and psychedelia that takes you all the way back to the sixties.

I recommend Across the Universe because is the kind of movie that captivates you in the first couple
of minutes. The interpretation of every song will take your breath away, your only task is to enjoy it
and sing along.
Question 2: Report

Family relationships in Chile

Introduction

The principal aim of this report is to acknowledge the current situation of families’ relationships in
Chile. To accomplish this purpose I conducted a survey to 100 families from all over the country.
They all come from different social backgrounds and were picked up randomly. In the following
paragraphs I will present the results of this survey and at the end of this report I will give some
suggestions about how this situation might change in the future.

Family communication and technology

According to the people surveyed, nearly three quarters of them stated that the massification of
technology has affected the way they communicate. The vast majority agreed that family members
pay more attention to their technological devices than to their sisters or brothers, etc.

Family activities

Regarding family activities, about 85% of the contestants stated that Sunday is the best day for a
family reunion, due to the fact that most family members don’t work or study in said day. A 30%
agreed on outdoor activities as the best option to strengthen the relationship bound.

Suggestions

Taking into account the previous information, I would like to provide some suggestions: First of all,
I tally with the idea that technology affects communication. Hence I strongly believe that families
should learn how to use it in a way that helps them be more connected to each other instead of
separating them. Second of all, I recommend people to organize their time wisely in order to have
at least one day to dedicate to their families.
