Entrapment of Nerve: (UE)

Radial nerve
Improper use of crutches
Axillary nerve  At axilla
 1st injured in shoulder anterior dislocation  Affected all posterior muscles of UE except ulnar 1½ fingers
 Fracture (fx) of surgical neck of humerus “Honeymoon palsy” or “Saturday night palsy”
 At spiral groove of humerus
Clinical Presentation (CP):  Affected forearm posterior muscles
1. Shoulder (SH) abd & ER weakness
2. Skin sensation on lower half of deltoids
3. Atrophy of deltoids

Suprascapular nerve
 Fall on posterior shoulder OR Scapular fracture
 Weakness of supraspinatus & infraspinatus mm

Musculocutaneous nerve
 2nd injured in humeral anterior dislocation; humeral or
clavicle fx;
 Weakness of shoulder & elbow flexion, supination and skin
sensation lateral forearm

Long thoracic nerve


 “rucksack palsy”
 Radical mastectomy; 1st rib resection; pressure from
backpack
 CP: medial winging of scapula

Ulnar nerve
 1st injured in clavicle fx
 Cubital tunnel (between medial epicondyle of humerus &
olecranon process of ulna)
 Tunnel of Guyon (between hamate & pisiform)

Median nerve
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
 Most common tunnel syndrome
 Compression at the carpal tunnel
 Colles fx
 Lunate dislocation
 Pregnancy
 weakness of thenar muscles, lateral 2 lumbricals & tingling
sensation on lateral 3 ½ fingers
Pronator Teres Syndrome
 Between 2 heads of pronator teres
 Intact pronator teres
 Affected mm innervated below the pronator teres
Anterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome
 weakness of FDP (lateral half), FPL, PQ
Humerus Supracondylar Process Syndrome
 Compression @ ligament of struthers
 affected pronator teres and muscles innervated below
