I haven’t seen a study that digs into the need of nitric oxide in children with autism.

But this was what I

found:

 Insufficient levels of nitric oxide during conception may be a cause of the development of
autism resulting in narrow neural columnar organization in the cortex as suggested by the book
“Recent Developments in Autism Research” By Manuel F. Casanova
(https://books.google.com.ph/books?id=61qguNWM06AC&pg=PA183&dq=low+nitric+oxide+pr
oduction+in+autism&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiYyor1_rLOAhUMmJQKHVeaBeMQ6AEIHDAA#
v=onepage&q=low%20nitric%20oxide%20production%20in%20autism&f=false)
 Children with autism has increased oxidative stress in the form of increased lipid peroxidation
(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15363659)
 Nitric oxide is an effective chain-breaking antioxidant in free radical-mediated lipid oxidation
(LPO) (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16443165)
 This need for more nitric oxide may be the reason why most children who have autism have
high levels of nitric oxide – which is to compensate the high oxidative stress encountered in this
population (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14960298
 This may also be the reason why Dr. Pierre Denis, a French researcher, who published his work
in Journal of Psychological Abnormalities in Children implicated nitric oxide in the
pathophysiology of autism when he used the title “Could the Novel Paradigm for NO (Nitric
Oxide) be involved in Autism?” (http://www.esciencecentral.org/journals/could-the-novel-
paradigm-for-no-nitric-oxide-be-involved-in-autism-16521-2329-9525%20-3-112.pdf)
