Reflection | Seven Sundays | Prim Cyril S.

Aranjuez – MAEd1

“Hindi naman ako nagagalit. Nag-aalala lang ako dahil nandito pa ako hindi na sila nagkakasundo. Paano na kung
wala na ako?” – Tatay

Seven Sundays is one of the best Filipino films I have seen in my life as of now. It is truly
a film about how to really value time, respect, love, and discipline towards a family relationship.
It is not that typical romantic comedy films that talks about love and cliché. It is more than that
so called “love” in a couple. This is FAMILY LOVE. The most foundation of all the LOVE that we
are feeling right now but unfortunately, the FAMILY LOVE that must be present in the movie is
truly lacking because of their past experiences and hidden grudges within the four siblings.

All of us has our own bets when it comes to the favorite scene in the movie. Mine is the
beach scene. Wherein the family decided to have their overnight stay at the beach together and
in the nighttime, they had this so called “Memory Box” to be uncovered as they (the siblings) are
now fully grown into adults. They had this BOX OF REBISCO wherein they write daily letters
just to let all the feelings out at the end of the day back when they were still young.

The moment that each letter was being unlocked and read again, the feeling of nostalgia
is truly there for the writers of each letter and the bonding of every sibling was unlocked. Honest
feelings were shown as well as they continue to share their past thoughts and experiences based
on the letters. Late realizations were present as well for the whole family as they did the activity.

Why did I personally choose this? Simply because, I am truly fond of remembering
childhood memories. The moment that me and my siblings will be united, the bond that I will
surely create is the “bond of throwback” in which I will be the one to really start the conversation
with a throwback scenario and then that will be start and the content of the whole convo. I really
appreciate that scene in Seven Sundays because it truly values the TIME there. If we could just
only go back to the time wherein, we will change our past in order for us to not have this kind of
feeling that we have right now – I would surely do that. Regrets truly come at the end. I have
observed doubts and regrets as well in that movie scene because of some instances that they
thought that the reason of it may be this but actually after 10-15 years, it is not the main reason
why that happened. They had these late realizations because of the time that lacks in their family
way back then.

Overall, in a family, there will surely be ups and downs. There is no challenge at all if all
the time, happiness overflows. Those challenges and fights, that every family had, strengthen
more the bond, love, and the trust for each other. The relationship between a mother and a father,
and the parents to the children, is the most important foundation of LOVE for everyone. LOVE
truly starts at home. How can we spread out LOVE if first and foremost it cannot be found in the
roof that we are staying most of the time? Fortunately, I have this kind of family that can really
help me become a better person. As of now, as I am living my 21st year of my life with my family
since Day 1, I am praying for more bonding and still praying for good health for us to still have
the love and connection with one another. Special thanks to technology for being one of the medium as
well for us to be united everyday 😊
