FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF PATIENT PHYSCIAN RELATIONSHIP

Patient has right to share the responsibility of their health with the physicians. To share the
responsibility, he can receive information from physicians about their problem. He can discuss benefits,
risks, costs of treatment, alternatives and optimal course of action. If patient wants additional
independent professional opinions, he can obtain copies or summaries of their medical record. Patient
or his guardians have right to accept or refuse any recommended medical treatment. Courtesy , respect,
dignity, timely provision of health needs and respect are patient’s right. It is physicians duty to keep
confidentiality and continuity of health care. It is physicians duty to coordinate and cooperate with
other health care providers treating the patient.

Patients has right to second or further medical opinions about their health. If requested , physician
must initiate or facilitate further opinions and provide essential information.

It is duty of patient and his attendants to respect physicians privacy. Patient can make telephone call to
physician but only in case of dire emergency. While making such call, patient must restrict himself to his
medical problem and must not use these means to gain other information.
