Victor resides in a village called Chamonix
Victor explains the Serenity and peacefulness of the alps
The only sounds that break the silence are those of nature

The Swiss Alps represent not only reinforce the beauty of the setting, but also, to
Frankenstein, the sensation of being home, in the place where he lived during the innocent
period of childhood. This fact makes this setting especially capable of elevating Victor and
make him forget the horrors lived.

The Alps were described as “Snowy tops, glittering pinnacle, pinewoods, ragged bare ravine,
the eagle, soaring amidst the cloud”- they all gave victor a sense of peace

“I remembered the effect that the view of the tremendous and ever-moving glacier produced
when I first saw it. It had filled me with a sublime ecstasy that gave wings to the soul and
allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy” pg. 100 – the beauty of the Alps
(summit of Montanvert) give Victor an escape from his sorrows.

“I remained in a recess of the rock, gazing on this wonderful and stupendous scene. (The
mountains) icy and glittering peaks shone in the sunlight over the clouds. My heart, which
was sorrowful, now swelled with something like joy;” – Page 101
