Nursing Now: Being heard in Pakistan

Nursing Now Campaign is timely and relevant to raise the status and profile of nursing and enhance nursing
leadership role in Pakistan. Contribution of nurses and midwives is critical in achieving health for all
and Nursing Now in Pakistan will advocate shift towards universal health coverage and achieving
Sustainable Development goals. This campaign will
empower nurses and midwives to take their seat at the decision making table where health care policies
and planning take place. Federal Health Minister Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh in his press release
has stated that Nurses are an integral part of health teams, playing a crucial role in health
promotion, disease prevention and treatment.
Government will provide a platform for functioning of forum and will make efforts to formulate the
recommendations to policies. Nurses in Pakistan will have a greater role to play in meeting the
changing needs of the 2st Century and Nursing Now will advocate to prepare effective nursing
leaders, to participate in policy making and decision making at all levels of public and private health
care initiatives. This political will and nurses with their united one voice will be critical to achieve
Universal Health Coverage for population of Pakistan. Improved nursing profession with regularized
systems and raised status and profile will also contribute to meeting the shortage of nursing in
Pakistan by attracting better prepared men and women to the profession
