Justice for Abortion and Reproductive Rights

Abortion is the process of terminating a pregnancy and it’s usually done within the first few

months of pregnancy. In the U.S. there’s two types of abortions that are legal to women.

Medication abortions which are drug-induced, and surgical abortions, which require out- or

inpatient surgery. Reproductive rights include the right for couples/ individuals to decide the

number, spacing and timing of their children. They also include the right to make decisions of

anything concerning reproduction, the right to use contraceptives, the right to gain access to

reproductive health services, and the right to have a child as well as the right not to have a child.

The social problem of justice for abortion and reproductive rights impacts all of society because

without abortions and reproductive rights women are forced to have children. If women are

given their reproductive rights then they can be allowed to have sex for pleasure. This breaks the

stereotype that a woman should be pure and delicate like a flower. This leads to more children in

foster care and homeless rates rise. The fight for justice for abortion and reproductive rights has

gone on for years. Since the Roe v. Wade case of 1973 to the 2003 “Partial birth abortion ban”.

We haven't received justice for abortion and reproductive rights because of many issues and

controversy. The conflict with abortion and reproductive rights stems from the conservative

perspective that you are killing a life. The conflict perspective with abortion and reproductive

rights is how the govt exercises control over the bodies of women. Some people’s values is what
influences many people to believe that it’s wrong to take an unborn child’s life. Most abortions

are performed during the first and second trimesters when the fetus can’t survive on its own

without being attached to the mother. The nonmaterial culture of religion has corrupted many

people into becoming pro-life. My beliefs include that God doesn’t judge and everyone has the

right to do as they please with their body.

The issue of justice for abortion and reproductive rights affects society in many ways. For

example if women aren’t given access to abortion clinics or birth control they may be subject to

having an unexpected child. Say this woman is fifteen years old and comes from a low income

family who doesn’t have the money to support her and her child. They give her two options

either she can move out and influx the homeless rate or give up her baby for adoption and influx

the rate of children in adoption. Society is intertwined and if women aren’t given abortion and

reproductive rights, it can affect other aspects of society.

I would respond to this issue personally by going to rallies for women's rights. If I had more

power I would create policies to insure that every woman in the U.S. has access to abortion

clinics and reproductive rights. For example taxes should be used on opening up more Planned

Parenthoods and clinics for abortion. Abortions should also be more affordable and insurances

should cover them. If abortions are made more accessible than more women will consider them

as an option. Many teens often aren’t informed on abortion and reproductive rights, so

sometimes their family influences them to believe that sex before marriage is a sin. One of my

friends was never informed on abortion and reproductive rights, so she went on believing that
abortion and birth control were murder. Once she was informed in health class the truth about

abortion and birth control, her perspective was changed. All high schools should thoroughly

inform teens on abortion and reproductive rights.

If I were in congress I would pass an amendment allowing all women the right to abortion and

reproductive rights. We need to have a president who supports the justice for abortion and

reproductive rights. There also needs to be more women in congress giving their opinion. For

centuries men in power have controlled women and their bodies, we have to be the generation to

end this.
