Çré Caurägragaëya-Puruñäñöakam (Upajäti Meter)

(Eight Prayers Glorifying the Chief of Thieves)

vraje prasiddhaà nava-nita-cauraà / gopaëganänäà ca duküla cauraà


anekäjanmarjjita-päpa-cauraà / caurägragaëyam puruñaà namämi (1)

All of vraja’s charmed, by His thieving of fresh butter. The chastity, with
clothes of Gopés- He’s stole without a flutter. Devotees many births of’
sins are stolen by this Thief. My obeisances unto Him, of all the thieves
-who is the chief.

çré rädhikäya hådayasya cauraà / navämbuda-çyämala-känti-cauraà


padäçritänäà ca samasta-cauraà / caurägragaëyam puruñaà namämi

The heart of Çré Rädhikä, has been stolen by Him. He has stolen the
freshly blossomed Blue Lotus’s dim. Of those who take shelter of His
feet,
everything- He’ll be the thief.
My obeisances unto Him, of all the thieves-who is the chief.

akiïcané-kåtya padäçritaà yaù / karoti bhikñuà pathi geha-hénaà


kenäpy aho bhéñaëa-caura édåg / dåñöaù çruto vä na jagat-traye ‘pi

Those taking shelter at His feet are transformed to frugal detached


poor.
Wandering upon the worlds roads -homeless -without a door. Aha
certainly an amazingly fearless thief as this-such, No one has seen or
heard about in the three worlds-not even a touch.

yadéya nämäpi haraty açeñaà / giri prasärän apé papa-räçén


äçcarya-rüpo nanu caura édåg / dåñöaù çruto vä na mayä kadäpi (4)

Whose chanted name steals sinful people’s all, sins ranging all like a
great
mountain-tall.
Amazing form (name) multi-talented Thief such, I have certainly not
anytime heard anywhere-as strange (amazing).

dhanaà ca mänaà ca tathendriyäëi / pränäàç ca håtvä mama sarvam


eva
paläyase kutra dhåto ‘dya caura / tvaà bhakti-dämnäsi mayä
niruddhaù (5)
My wealth, prestige, and senses, life and everything I have, has
certainly
been stolen by You, where else will you go to run, being held today-Oh
thief? You are controlled by the love of your devotees, I’m stunned by
this.

chinatsi ghoraà yama-päça-bandhaà/ bhinatsi bhémaà bhava-paça-


bandham
chinatsi sarvasya samasta-bandham/ naivätmano bhakta-kåtaà tu
bandham (6)

You easily slash the terrible binding ropes of Yamaräja, the Lord of
death, You
easily slash the fearful powerful noose of bondage in this material
world. You
easily slash the bondage of everyone, but indeed, You are unable to cut
the
knot fastened by Your devotees.
man-mänase tämasa-raçi-ghore / kärä-gåhe-duùkha-maye nibaddhaù
labhasva he caura, hare, ciräya / sva-caurya-doñocitam eva daëòam

Imprisoned as I am, in the deeply horrible jail of my Mind, in my


household life done by my own hands, I’ve been bound up fully by
these miseries for a long time. Somehow or other, O thief, I’ve
obtained You- O my Lord, certainly now, You
will punish me, your thief, fittingly due to the faults of my thievery.

kärä-gåhe vasa sadä hådaye madéye / mad-bhakti-paça-dåòa-


bandana-niçcalaù san
tväà kåñëa he pralaya-koöé-çatäntare ‘pi / sarvasya caura hådayan
nahi mocayämi (8)

You who are residing always in the middle of the heart, May the ropes
of my devotional service for You, done with my hands- bind You firmly,
O Kåñëa,
reservoir of all pleasure, so even after millions of devastations at all
times,
although You steal all hearts, I’ll not let you go from my Heart.
