FORGIVENESS IN THE WORKPLACE

What is forgiveness?

It is understanding that you cannot go back and change the past and accepting
that all your experiences no matter how traumatic, painful or unhappy they may
have been are simply lessons from which you learn.

The lessons learnt whether emotional, physical or psychological, negative or

positive are meant to teach you how to be who you are, make you wiser and
more empowered.

Once you accept those lessons and truly learn from them, the negatives of
yesterday will never affect you again. Freedom comes from forgiveness.

Who is it that you need to forgive?

1. Everyone-e.g Forgive a colleague who lied to you, The spouse who hurt
you.
2. Yourself-for everything you believe you have done wrong e.g not being
supportive, not respecting others.

How do you forgive?

1. Look at people you are forgiving in a positive way and understand

why they did what they did.
2. Use the lesson you learned to move forward e.g

People find it hard to forgive because they think forgiving is the same thing as
condoning the behaviour or act that caused the pain. One might not like the
lessons learned from forgiving but they make someone stronger and more aware
of their lives.

CONSEQUENCES OF NOT FORGIVING

1. People become less tolerant and take minor issues to heart and at
times build a mountain out of a molehill.
2. The need to revenge coupled with grudges exert negative energy into
the body and lead to increased stress levels as result of the releasing
of potent stress hormones.
3. A fight with the enemy
