News Story 3

Seniors Jennie Park and Derek Hamilton talk to us about their experiences
with golf and how they were able to exceed to regionals and state. First we
sat down and talked to Jennie and Derek’s coach Terie Campbell.
Coach Terrie Campbell shares with us her initial thought when she found
out that Jennie Park advanced to state for her 4th year in a row. “For Jennie, I
was very excited, she didn’t win, a little freshman beat her by a couple
strokes. So she was a little nervous, but her advancing to state was on her
bucket list, so we were all very happy.” We also talked to Coach Campbell
about how she felt when her boys team all advanced to state. “I don’t know
what was sweeter beating south lake by 5 strokes or advancing to regionals as
a team.”
Next we talked to Jennie Park and got her viewpoints on how different
playing at regionals and state is from other tournaments. “Um, well I guess
it’s a lot more pressure, but at the same time we had fun with it.” Jennie also
told us about how different playing in college vs. high school is. “Definitely
will be a lot more competitive, cause in high school you can get away with
small things but college you can’t.”
Finally we were able to sit down with Derek Hamilton and talk to him
about how it felt that he advanced to state. “I was really happy because it was
the first time that we did it in 14 years, and it was my senior year which
makes it more special.”
After to talking with Coach Campbell, Jennie, and Derek we’ve learned a
lot about golf and how its more than a tournament is the adrenaline rush they
get from hitting the ball into the put. Golf isn’t just a game for old retired
men who have nothing better to do, its equivalent to Hebron’s football,
baseball, and soccer games and no one should underestimate them.
