Ayr Road Alanson, MI 49706 Re: Consideration of Rogers City as stocking location for Atlantic salmon Dear Mr. Claramunt: On behalf of the City Council of the City of Rogers City, | want to express my sincere interest in Rogers City being selected by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as the ideal location to stock Atlantic salmon beginning in spring 2020. In the following proposal, we lay out the biological, social, and economic reasons Rogers City — historically a world-class salmon fishery — makes the most sense for the Lake Huron stocking program of this world-class fish. The proposal includes resolutions of support from Rogers City's City Council, Harbor Advisory Committee, and Downtown Development Authority, as well as a petition of support signed by area anglers. We believe these documents prove broad support from within the community for the stocking of Atlantic salmon, and thank you in advance for your consideration of Rogers City as the ideal location to expand the program. Sincerely, Scott McLennan Mayor City of Rogers City ‘This institution isan equal opportunity provider and employer. Atlantic salmon stocking The Case for Rogers City ‘The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has been stocking approximately 100,000 Atlantic salmon in Lake Huron each spring. The fish, produced at the State's Platte River Hatchery, are stocked in the St. Marys River, near Detour, the Thunder Bay River, near Alpena, the Au Sable River, near Oscoda, and Lexington Harbor, in Lexington. Atlantic salmon are a famed fish, and a fun, challenging catch, sought after by anglers from around the world. Largely due to the stocking program expanding the species’ numbers, Lake Huron is fast becoming the largest landlocked Atlantic salmon fishery in the World. Because the program has been a success, the DNR is expanding it through the production of an additional 80,000 [Atlantic salmon, to be produced at the State's Harietta Hatchery. These new fish will be stocked at a yet-to-be- determined location in spring 2020. (On August 6, 2029, the Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee will meet at Jay's Sporting Goods in Clare to discuss, and arrive at a recommendation to the ONR, as to where these additional fish should be stocked. Rogers City believes itis by far the best choice to be added to the stocking program. Why? Keep reading. Our proposal is laid out as follows: 1) Atlantic salmon want Rogers City 2).
