idealistic and social aspects to give holistic understanding of our living environment. This university is a good
platform for talented and ambitious young generation to strengthen their integrity, excellence, accountability,
respect and service.
Teaching apart, the University is research-intense and has patents and numerous international publications to
its credit. It offers you a functional blend of scientific temper and creative practices as equal emphasis is given to
Science, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management. Students from various states and different
countries create a culturally diverse campus. Further, this balanced atmosphere provides opportunities to
participate in collaboration and exchange programs organised with various universities abroad.
The departments are packed with busy schedule of lectures, sport and social activities that will augment

PROFILE
The Bharathiar University, named after the great visionary and a revolutionary National Poet, Subramania
Bharathi was established in Coimbatore at the foothills of Maruthamalai by the Government of Tamilnadu in
February 1982, with jurisdiction over the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and The Nilgiris. This
University is the offspring of the world renowned University of Madras. `
This University has its principles enshrined with the lofty motto "Educate to EIevate". Every effort is harnessed
to realize the dreams of the poet of making Educational institutions a temple of learning. lt is the aim of the
University to participate in the task of inculcating necessary knowledge, skills and creative attitudes and values
among the youth of this country, to contribute more effectively towards establishing an equitable social and
economic order and the secular ideals of our Nation.
lt is located in a sprawling area of about 1000 acres free from pollution, 12 kms. away from the Coimbatore city.
The atmosphere is quite serene and ideal for intellectual pursuits. The campus has a number of well-designed
buildings which house various teaching and research schools, library, Internet centre, administrative offices,
hostels and canteens, etc.,
The University is an affiliating type, recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), a member of the
Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Common Wealth Universities. At present 25 Autonomous colleges,
113 colleges are affiliated to it. This includes 11 Management Institutions, 102 Arts & Science colleges
(18 Women's colleges, 91 Co-educational colleges, and 4 Men's colleges) including one Airforce Administrative
College and three constituent Colleges and a PG Study Centre.
This University has 39 Departments in the campus, dedicated to teaching and research including 13 Schools
and a School of Distance Education. All Schools/ Departments are manned by highly qualified and well-
experienced faculty members.

Candidates who will be completing their degree programmes during April / May 2017
examinations are also eligible to apply for admission, the applicants will be
provisionally admitted to the courses based on their performance in the entrance test
(if applicable) and (or) in qualifying examination (UG degree course) upto V semester /
ll year (for non semester courses). However, their admissions will be confirmed only if
they successfully complete the programme and satisfy the above eligibility conditions
before the commencement of classes.
The candidates should have completed 10+2+3/11+1+3 (15) years of study before
admission to the Post Graduate and PG Diploma courses offered by this University.

The application form and the hall-ticket, shall be completed in all respects and sent to
(The above procedures does not apply for M.B.A. and M.C.A. degree courses offered in the University
Department and for all courses offered by the School of Distance Education).
Candidates who are eligible and willing to apply for admission to more than one PG degree and PG diploma
courses shall submit separate applications for each and every course. Application made for admission to one
course will not be considered for any other course.
The application should be accompanied with attested Xerox copies ofthe following certificates.
1. SSLC Mark Sheet 5. Provisional / Degree Certificate (if already qualified for degree)
2. HSC Mark Sheet 6. Certificate of extra-curricular activities, if any.
3. Degree Mark Sheets 7. Certificate of disablement (for disabled students)

The total marks scored upto 5th semester of study (if it is semester pattern) or upto ll year of study (if it is annual
pattern) in the UG degree course in all subjects other than i) part l / ll Languages and ii) subjects like General
Knowledge, NSS, irrespective of the candidate appearing for April 2015 examinations or already qualified for
the award of degree, shall be reduced to 40 marks. lf a candidate has failed in some subjects upto V semester/ I
year as the case may be, as on date of application, the marks secured in all subjects (passed and failed) shall be
taken to arrive at the total marks scored.
The question paper for the entrance test shall consist of 60 objective type questions with 4 choices to choose
among, carrying 1 (one) mark each and the duration of the test will be 90 minutes.
Hall- tickets containing the date, time and venue of the entrance test will be sent to the candidates by the
respective HODs by certificate of posting so as to reach the candidates atleast 5 days before the date of
entrance test. Candidates who do not receive the hall-tickets in time may contact the respective HODs and
obtain the same.
Provisional list of selected / wait listed candidates will be put up in the notice boards of the respective
departments within fifteen days after the date of entrance test.
The selected candidates shall be required to surrender their original Transfer Certificate, Conduct Certificate
Community Certificate, Mark sheets, (SSLC, HSC, Degree) Provisional / Degree Certificates and a set of
attested Xerox copies of all the certificates and remit the prescribed fee on or before the last date indicated in
their admission card.
FREE EDUCATION SCHEME
Free Education Scheme offered by this University enables Free Education to the poor and meritorious students. It is
offered to one candidate from each department, admitted into various courses of this University. Parents income
should not exceed Rs. 2.00 lakhs per year. The selection will be based on the family income and academic
performance. Such students are eligible to apply for free education. All the fee, boarding and lodging are borne by the
University for the students selected under this scheme.
s Admission will be made strictly on the basis of the reservation of policy Govt. of TamilNadu.
s Students belonging to Adi Dravidar and Tribal Community and Adi Dravidar students converted
to Christianity are exempted from Tuition Fee as per Tamil Nadu Government direction.
s 3% of the seats are reserved for differently abled students in all the courses.
.Applicants not getting admission in one department can transfer their applications to other departments
where seats are available with the permission of the Registrar. However such transferers will be ranked after
original applicants in the selection process.
The filled in application should be submitted to the concerned Head of the Department
by Post / in person on or before 22.05.2017 by 5.30 pm.

DIRECT ADMISSION
For the following courses, provisional admissions will be made directly based on the academic
performance in Under Graduate Courses. However, in case of large number of applications, the
University reserves the right to conduct entrance examination or counselling.
REFUND OF FEE
FEE ONCE PAID WILL NOT BE REFUNDED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,
EVEN IF THE CANDIDATES WOULD NOT ATTEND THE CLASSES.
ONLY CAUTION DEPOSIT IS REFUNDABLE.

Amenities
The University has seven buses for the convenience of the staff and students. The campus is also connected
with very frequent city buses from the Coimbatore city. The University runs four hostels for boys and three
exclusively for girl students. There are well- equipped Library, Computer Centre, Health Centre and Sports
Stadium. A Post-Office, Bank, Food Court, Travel Desk, Stationery Shop and saloon are functioning in the
University Campus for the benefit of the staff and students.
Library
The Library is located in a vast Building and plays a vital role in supporting it has a collection of over 1,50,000
items covering all the subjects taught in the University Schools. The key to the Library's collections and range of
services is its catalogue, which can be searched using terminals in the Library UGC-INFONET terminals with
Internet access, the library also gives access to a wide range of electronic resources.
Scholarships
A number of scholarships which include the Government of India, Merit, Backward, Most Backward Class
Scholarships, Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribe Scholarships are also available to the students admitted to the
PG Degree courses. UGC Sponsored scholarships such as Single Girl Child, Rank holders, Rajiv Gandhi JRF & SRF
etc. are also available.

Fitness Centre
The University Fitness Centre is functioning in the basement of the School of Distance Education Building. This
facility is open to all the staff and students. Separate sections are available for men and women. Well qualified
physical fitness instructors are available in the centre. The centre focuses its attention on maintaining and
developing physical fitness, weight reduction and body building.
Health Centre
The University Health Centre caters to the medical needs of the students and employees of the University. It
functions daily on all working days with well experienced Doctors and Technicians.
NSS
The University extends its community service activities through the National Service Scheme (NSS) with 250
NSS units functioning in the University campus and affiliated colleges. Nearly 25,000 student volunteers are
actively involved in social upliftment programmes. Under the agis of NSS a Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is
functioning, which creates an awareness about the AIDS and ways of preventing it.
Online Services
The online services like, payment of Tuition Fees, Exam Fee and other relevant forms, information are being
offered through the website of the University www.b-u.ac.in
Hostels
Separate hostel facilities are available for Women, Men PG students with single and twin bed rooms, solar
heater, common mess with Indian Food, Recreation rooms, Students who are desirous to join the hostel shall
contact the Hostel office immediately after admission.
Hostel accommodation will be subject to the availability of rooms. Otherwise students have to make
their own arrangements for accommodation.
