U of M Essay Question:

​If you could only do one of the activities you have listed in the Activities section of your
application, which one would you keep doing? Why?

Response:
If I could only choose one activity to keep doing, it has to be drumming. I made this
decision based on a couple of factors. Ever since I was young, my parents surrounded me with
music and made me play piano. However, the delicacy of playing piano soon bored me and so I
turned to the radical world of drumming. After that moment, I discovered my newest passion and
I spent hours on-end practicing and always getting better. My passion for drumming led me to
take part in the percussion section in symphonic band at my middle school. In middle school, I
did not find myself at all challenged by what we played, so when I went on to high school, I
made sure I tried out for our drumline. I made it, however I found myself at more of the bottom
level in terms of skill. As a result, I resumed my multi-hour practice sessions at home. Pushing
myself hard. I greatly improved my skills to a point where now, I am one of the top players on
our drumline. Now, I do not want to just stop drumming when I attend college because of all of
those hours I spent playing. Instead, I want to continue one of my biggest passions in college,
preferably on the drumline.
