3.3 Testing BOP on Stump using test mandrel
Procedure
Important note: when stump testing under the rig
floor a test mandrel will have to be used, due to
height restrictions a joint of Drillpipe cannot be
used, when using the mandrel an accurate
measurement of the ram spacing must be kept
3.3.1 Attach test pump hose to fitting on BOP test stump A.D /
and fill with sea water Floormen
3.3.2 Rig up snatch block above centre of BOP. A.D /
Floormen
3.3.3 Run utility winch through snatch block and lower A.D /
to BOP deck. Floormen
3.3.4 Attach utility winch to test mandrel and hoist up to A.D /
top of BOP. Floormen
3.3.5 Lower mandrel inside bop to first component to be A.D /
tested i.e. Annular Floormen
3.3.6 Reduce pressure to minimum on BOP control unit. A.D / Driller
3.3.7 Soft close Annular/Ram and pull mandrel up until A.D / Driller
it bottoms out.

3.3.8 Increase pressure on BOP control unit up to A.D / Driller

operating pressure.
3.3.9 Apply test pressure to Annular/Ram for the A.D / Driller
required time as per operator’s requirements.
3.3.10 After each test bleed pressure down and confirm A.D / Driller
reading is ZERO.
3.3.11 Function BOP Annular/Ram open and repeat A.D / Driller
previous steps until all Pipe Rams and annular are
tested.
3.3.12 Hoist test mandrel carefully out of the BOP, being A.D /
careful to not hang up in the ram cavities. Floormen
3.3.13 Lower the mandrel to the bop deck and disconnect A.D /
from utility winch Floormen
3.3.14 Close the blind shear rams and perform the final A.D / Driller
pressure test.
3.3.15 After final test is completed ensure all pressure is A.D / Driller
bled down to zero and open all rams and valves to
drain stack.
3.3.16 Rig down all lifting equipment and store A.D /
appropriately. Floormen
3.3.17 Make P.A announcement that testing is finished; A.D / Driller
Take down all signs and barriers.
