There are a few different styles of fake nails out there, but in general, the term ‘artificial nail’

refers to those made from powder or liquid mixes that are made in front of you at the nail salon.
Many women head to the salon for artificial nails for their convenience and beauty. The process
requires a manicurist to apply artificial nail tips, using both a liquid and powder acrylic to bond
the tips to your natural nails. Despite the attractiveness of acrylic nails, however, several toxins
lurking in artificial nails can pose a risk to nail health. The following are the different nail
problems that can rise from the application of the artificial nails

(i) The hard-to-clean area underneath the nail may cause nails to be extra sensitive,
especially if an MMA-based acrylic (Methyl Methacrylate) is used.

(ii) Artificial nails create inflamed or itchy cuticles if the tools used to apply them are
worn out or coarse. One should be mindful of those which have sharp odors -- this is a
sign that something is off.

(iii) Depending on the nail strength, artificial nails may cause a splitting or painful nail
plate. One should close attention to how strong and think nails are. Extremely thin
nails may not be the best for artificial nails.

(iv) It might be hard to spot, but infection below the nail bed can become all too real. This
also goes back to overused, worn out nail tools.

(v) Artificial nails often weaken nails, making them prone to breakage. One should Pay
attention to the nail growth over time.

In conclusion, whether you are a frequent wearer of acrylic nails or only get them for special
occasions, be aware of the potential risks to not only to your natural nails, but to your overall
health as well. To avoid permanently damaging your natural nails, make sure to have your
artificial nails removed by a professional nail technician at a reputable salon. Additionally, make
sure your technician properly sterilizes all tools and implements to avoid a potential infection.
Finally, limit your exposure to toxic chemicals found in acrylic nails by wearing them
infrequently. While short-term wear isn't likely to cause any permanent damage to your nails or
your health, wearing acrylic nails regularly can pose a significant health risk.
