Visits to the stakeholders are needed in order to determine the feasibility and
marketability of the product. I also want to determine customer needs or user’s requirements,
their problems encountered in using the same or existing product and their suggestions for
the improvement of the existing product. Interviews may be supplemented with one or two
focus groups and observes a group of customers in using the existing product for sharing a
common customer experience to identify problems and better understand their needs. Needs
will be identified more efficiently by interviewing lead users. Data will be gathered from the
end users of the product.
I need to learn the operation of the product and how this product will be used, the
different components and materials needed and how these components will be assembled. I
also want to know the operational performance of this product to ensure the operational and
durability of its components. The feasibility and marketability of the new product are needed
through study by conducting interviews and observation and generating data from the
customer’s statement. The needs will be expressed in terms of what the product has to do, not
in terms of how it might do it. I need to learn how to organize the needs into a hierarchal list
which is typically consist of a set of primary needs and secondary needs and then establish
the relative importance of the needs. And the last thing to know is how to reflect on the
results and the process.
