Background: Osteoporosis are characterized by low bone density and degeneration of bone

microarchitecture system which causes increased fragility and risk of fracture. The Parity and
lactation are thought to be related to changes in calcium homeostasis in women. This study was
conducted to determine the correlation of the history of parity and lactation toward bone density
in menopausal patients..

Method: This research is an analytical study with cross sectional research design use the total
sampling method of menopausal women who had bone density checked. Primary data obtained
through structured interviews and secondary data obtained through medical record observation.
Data penelitian dianalisis dengan uji Fisher apabila tidak memenuhi syarat uji Chi-square dan
analisis regresi logistik. The data research were analyzed by Fisher's test if it did not fulfill the Chi-
square test requirements and logistic regression analysis.

Result: Bone density test in menopausal patients show that 72% of respondents had decreased
bone density. Bivariate test show that IMT (p= 0,006), gestational age history (p= 0,000),
consumption of calcium supplements history (p= 0,000), and milk intake history (p= 0,000) has a
significant correlation with bone density, while parity (p= 0,179), lactation history (p= 0,055),
contraceptive use history (p=0,130), and comorbid factor (p= 0,068) not show any significant
correlation with bone density. Multivariet analysis with logistic regression show that gestational
age history ≥ 35 years is the most affect factor toward decrease in bone density.

Conclusion: The parity history and lactation history did not have a significant relationship with
bone density in Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, parity and lactation statistics are not
risk factors toward decrease in bone density.
