BACKGROUND
While Psalms has the most chapters, the book of Jeremiah has the most words in the Bible. Jeremiah
follows Isaiah by 60 years. Jeremiah has been nicknamed “the weeping prophet” (Jeremiah 9:1). The son
of Hilkiah a priest, he proclaimed God’s message to Judah from 626-586 BCE. Israel had fallen about 721
BCE to the Assyrians.
Consider how many times the following words are mentioned in Jeremiah.
● Backslide - 15 times
● Forsaken - 24 times
● Captivity - 50 times
● The word of the LORD 150 times
God commands Jeremiah not to marry. He said to suffer in chapter 20 and was assaulted and
threatened with death.in chapter 26.
All of the world powers are against Judah: Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians.

Lamentations 3:22-25 (KJV) (22) It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (24) The LORD is my
portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. (25) The LORD is good unto them that wait for him,
to the soul that seeketh him.
