Inquiry Question: “To what extent was Japan forced to wage a war in 1941?

Conclusion: In conclusion, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 which mark the start of war
against the Americans was deemed necessary so as to safeguard their national interest and to ensure
its survival in the western-controlled world. The foreign policies adopted by the western powers also
drove Japan to an edge where they needed to take actions before the western powers took the
opportunity to exploit and colonise them. Although Japan’s foreign policies may deemed to be
aggressive, it was necessary to fulfil their aim of being an Asian superpower, having the means to itself
against the Western aggression and colonization. This would prevent Japan from facing the same fate
as its neighbouring countries, falling into the mercy of Western powers and losing their independence as
a sovereign nation.
