Application Marine Propulsion

Description Mini MPD is a monitoring system for electronically

controlled Caterpillar marine engines. It provides
instantaneous engine and transmission information. The Mini
MPD unit measures 120 mm (4.72 in.) high x
147 mm (5.79 in.) wide x 52.32 mm (2.06 in.) deep. The
double-edge lit, high-resolution screen (320 by 240 pixels) is
a fully graphic, transflective, positive image LCD with
adjustable illumination levels. Red LED edge lighting for
gauges and function buttons provides low light level
visibility. The alarm and internal components are sealed to a
minimum rating of (IP68) 5 psi and will operate in a
temperature range of -40° to 85° C (-40° to 185° F). An SAE
J1939 data link provides information from the engine ECU to
the display module.

Features/Benefits Mini MPD is easy to use and offers many of the same
features and capabilities as Engine Vision in a lower cost
package. The unit is extremely compact, durable, and
protected against adverse temperatures and weather
conditions. The display screen provides excellent visibility in
all lighting conditions. With the screen builder software,
customized screens can be designed by three different users
to display different engine parameters on different sizes and
types of gauges. The custom screen files can be flashed to
the Mini MPD using the Caterpillar Electronic Service Tool
(ET). An audible alarm alerts the engine operator of any
active diagnostics.

Mini MPD Screens

Diagnostic windows show a visual

warning of an active diagnostic or
event. An audible alarm will accompany
this visual warning.

Current Engine Totals screen displays trip and

lifetime totals that are stored in the engine’s ECU.
Engine ECUs will support most if not all
parameters. Not all totals will be available for all
engines, in which case “N/A” will be displayed.
The trip totals can be cleared from the helm with
the appropriate trip reset switch. Some engines
will require a separate trip clear switch wired to
the customer connector on the engine.
