Dear people of the world,

March 25th 2017,

The fight to be seen as equal among others no matter what the difference, has come
down a very long road. The fight for freedom, the right to vote, the fight for all
americans no matter gender, age, or sexual orientation to be seen as equal. The
particular fight for gay marriage to be seen as equal to marriage between a man and
women came to a victorious end on June 26th 2015. Though gay marriage has become
legal in the U.S. it is still treated as something wrong and unnatural in the world.
There should be more communities where gay marriage is accepted and seen as equal
towards any other standard of officializing love between two people. The love between
two people shouldn’t be looked down upon whether its between the opposite sex or the
same sex. Love is love.

Denying marriage to someone just because of the two participant’s gender is wrong.
“The 140 page thesis written at a time when same-sex couples had no country-or state
level recognition anywhere in the world(let alone marriage), explained that denying
one class of people access to marriage was state-sponsored discrimination that needed
correction” (freedomtomarry.org). The case of denying someone the right to wed
someone they want to share their life with because of their gender is discrimination.
Though a light may not be shed on this type of discrimination, it is denying someone
something because of race, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation or other factors others
may identify with.

While gay marriage isn’t for procreation, it could lower the numbers of children up for
adoption or in foster homes. “Of the 594,000 same-sex couple households in the
United States, 115,000 have children. Some people say that children need both a
mother and a father to raise them, but there are many others who believe that gender
does not matter when parenting. Over the years, the number of children living with
LGBT parents has risen tremendously. As the trend continues, that number will only
increase, as same sex adoption and parenting becomes more and more widely accepted”
(lifelongadoptions.com). While people say gay marriage isn’t for procreation it helps
lower the rate of children the could possibly never get the chance to have actual
parents and experience having a family.

While allowing gay marriage means to accept same-sex couples as equal to opposite
gender couples, allowing gay marriage can also be good economically. “In New York,
the city's comptroller’s office estimated that the economic impact of marriage equality
would add $142 million to New York City's economy from wedding-related purchases
and tourism revenue in the three years after the law was passed in 2011, and another
$184 million in spending to the state’s economy” (money.cnn.com). Allowing gay
marriage not only benefits the couple but the state as well. The legalization of gay
marriage would lead to a rise in weddings, meaning a rise in the amount of people
getting married which means more money for venues, and honeymoon trips and
everything having to do with a wedding.

In contrast to these arguments some reasons gay marriage isn’t welcome in many
communities is because it's not pro creation of new life, it denies a child either a mother
or a father, and it goes against natural law. “One does not have to be a homophobe or
bigot to believe that the Supreme Court made a tragic error today in creating out of
thin air an imaginary right for gay marriage. Friday’s landmark mistake will have
legal, sociological, and spiritual consequences for years to come” (foxnews.com). In
saying this it is believed that same sex marriage will create a tremendous load of court
cases being filed against any church who denies two people of the same sex marriage,
thus creating an uproar against people of the church-because they believe it is going
against their beliefs- and people who resent them for denying them the now legal right
to get married. Furthermore, marriage between two same sex spouses denies a child, if
any are a party in the marriage, either a mother or a father. “Among other things,
mothers excel in providing children with emotional security and in reading physical and
emotional cues of infants. Among other things, we now fathers excel in reducing
antisocial behavior and delinquency in boys and sexual activity in girls” (frc.org).

While these are all legitimate reasons, depending on your beliefs, to oppose same-sex
marriage but to deny two people the right to officialize their love, to say to two people
that ‘your love is not real love, your relationship is not a real relationship’ is like saying
‘you do not deserve this because there are certain qualities that are different about you
from majority of the people that reside in the U.S.’ This matter is urgent and needs to
be assessed with a great load of thought and care. Gay marriage should have more
communities that welcomes it, while I can’t force people to change the way they see
things, gay marriage isn’t an ‘unnatural thing’ it's love between two people just as
marriage between man and women is and should be welcomed and respected in more
places around the world.
