Most of the time C+7 means C7 alt, and any combination of altered tensions will
sound correct, The altered scale will be the ‘best fit’. Most often the altered
C#7 is a V chord i aii-V-| progression.
There are times when C+7 means an augmented chord and the whole-tone scale is

The altered dominant chord is almost always used in a minor li-V-i
but it can be used in major ii-V-I also,Flaying a pentatonic scale that is a tritone away from the root of the altered
dominant chord gives you a five note scale that includes the 4 possible
altered tensions. Here's an example of a major ii-V-| in F. The pentatonic
scale over the C7 alt, is a G flat pentatonic.
