Multimodal Abstract

Gillette is a company intended for men who use personal care products such as shaving.

The company’s commercial “The Best Men Can Be” was created to try and reshape men

removing toxic masculinity from the world and making a better society. The commercial uses a

male narrator and uses real life examples creating both an ethos and logos argument, but also

uses pathos to guilt men into believing there needs to be a change in society. Using all three of

the greek modes and a feminist lens, Gillette creates a very persuasive argument.

This project will be done through the format of a presentation. Looking through “The

Best Men Can Be” it becomes very clear that Gillette wants men to change the way they act and

become more fit for today’s society by using pathos and ethos to guilt and persuade the viewer.

It then uses logos to further provide examples of what needs to be changed in society and shows

what people have to go through because of toxic masculinity on a daily basis. The use of

feminism helps provide a solution to their argument which is to allow for men to become more

supportive of other people as well rather than trying to keep all of the power to themselves with

the use of toxic masculinity.
