I love to learn about Southern history how the United States has changed into the country
it is today, so I knew I wanted to do my project on a leader that had a very important role in
helping the U.S. do so. When I found Hampton III I knew this is the person I would enjoy to
learn about because I could tie in the theme of triumph, tragedy and significance in history but I
would also be intrigued by him. I chose Wade Hampton III as my topic because he was a very
influential person that many people looked up to during and after the Civil War, he was well
For my research I looked for many sources on various Universities’ databases. I went to
the Coastal Carolina Kimbel Library and found many sources on Wade Hampton III. Many of
my primary sources were found on these schools databases. All of my sources were found
I created this project by doing research on Hampton and using Weebly to put all of it
together. Overtime, as I continued learning about my topic I learned more about the how both
sides viewed what was going on during this time. When I first started this project I had a really
good idea of how to incorporate Wade Hampton’s tragedy. I was stuck trying to find a triumph,

I put my website together by using Weebly. It was easy to use, and it kept my work
organized well. My topic on Wade Hampton III relates to triumph and tragedy because Hampton
had many triumphs and tragedies and they all were very important in the making of the United
States as it is today. Wade Hampton III is seen as a racist to most people because of his role in
the Confederate Army, however, he should be known for much more. Hampton III helped the
acceptance of newly freed slaves into Southern society. This is a great triumph that I used in my
project. Wade Hampton helped the Southern states of the U.S. change into the states they are in
present day.
