NC State University

NCSU is my dream school for many reasons; one being that my mother got her degree

there, and the other being that my brother will be attending NCSU this coming school year. What

I find interesting about NCSU is the campus life and all the opportunities that students at NCSU

are given. Living on campus, which all freshmen are required to do, allows students to live in a

more comfortable environment while still being on campus; and accessing NCSU’s amazing

buildings and classes helps to want to learn and be successful, so finding a job is as easy as

possible after graduation.

North Carolina State University is one of the largest colleges in NC, with a total

undergraduate enrollment of 24,150 students and it is located in the heart of Raleigh, NC

("North Carolina State University--Raleigh - Profile, Rankings and Data ..."). According to the

NCSU website, their 9,000 faculty and staff are “world leaders in their fields,” which is why they

have such a good reputation. NCSU has over 100 majors, so you have plenty of options when

you are looking to find your career path. For me, the College of Education at NCSU is the place I

am most excited to pursue.

The housing at NC State is very convenient, because of how close the buildings are to the

school. There are actually two main campus areas: the original campus and the new Centennial

Campus, which is a research park in the NCSU community that houses companies, agencies, and

non-profit organizations, in which it helps the students with their time there at NCSU (“About

NC State | NC State University”). It is easy to get around campus, because there are walking

paths all over, as well as the WolfLine bus system, which will take you from the original campus

to Centennial, as well as other areas of interest around campus.

In order to be accepted into the university, you must meet the requirements from the

school. The average SAT score for acceptance to NCSU is 1309 and the average incoming GPA

is 3.67, unweighted ("NCSU SAT Scores and GPA - PrepScholar"). It is a good idea to take

challenging courses in high school to better prepare you to succeed at State. According to the

Prep Scholar site, the acceptance rate for State is 51% and they recommend that if you take

“some AP or IB classes, this will help boost your weighted GPA and show your ability to take

college classes.”

Once admitted to NCSU, you must figure out how to pay your way. To be enrolled at

NCSU, you must pay the tuition, which on average is around $8,581 in-state, or if you are out of

state: $24,932. Because my brother is a senior, our family has done a great deal of research on

the value of colleges in NC, and NCSU is competitive and has many programs that will help you

to be successful in your post graduate life.

For me personally, a degree from NCSU (probably in the field of education) would

benefit me in many ways. For one, the school of education is ranked number 92 among all

Colleges of Education in the world ("College of Education | NC State University"). Another

reason an education degree from NC State is a great option for me is that I would have access to

great schools in the Research Triangle area to observe and study while I am a student, in

particular, Wake County Public Schools. Some of the best teachers I have had have been NCSU

graduates, and I am excited about learning more about the school as I get closer to my

graduation.
