Vanguardia del Ejército Libertador. Su acción en el Puente de Boyacá, con su paso triunfal

Batalla de Boyacá, con la cual se selló la libertad de Colombia y se culminó la
independencia.

THE MONUMENT TO SIMÓN BOLÍVAR, the Liberator


This was designed and made by a German called Ferdinand Von Miller.

OBELISK
This was the first monument erected in the “Campo de Boyacá”. It was completed in 1896.
These Egyptian style obelisks (like Cleopatra’s Needle) were very fashionable in Europe at
the time.

THE TRIUMPHAL ARCH


This was designed and built by el maestro Luis Alberto Acuña in 1954. It was built to
honour all the soldiers who took part in the Campaña Libertador.

El coronel patriota Juan José Rondón presenta a Bolívar la idea de realizar una carga de
caballería ligera. A la voz de Bolívar de «Coronel, ¡Salve usted la patria!»,
Rondón, seguido inicialmente por 14 lanceros que respondieron de inmediato a la voz:
«¡Que los valientes me sigan!»
y de cerca por el resto de los llaneros realizó una carga de caballería que se considera decisiva
para desequilibrar la batalla a favor del ejército de Bolívar.

La parte elaborada en concreto tiene treinta y seis (36) escalones en memoria a los 36 años que
Simón Bolívar tenía el día de la Batalla (cumplió 36 años el día anterior a la batalla, el 24 de
julio).
