To Whom It May Concern,

I believe my role as a school counselor is to support all students, without exception, in their
academic, career, and personal growth by preparing, empowering, and encouraging them with
high expectations and social-emotional support. My experience working with youth in schools,
educational non-profit organizations, and crisis centers gives me confidence in my ability to
significantly benefit the students in your district.

The school counseling skills I can offer include managing caseloads of diverse students,
supporting them with setting academic SMART goals, monitoring student success data such as
attendance and grades, building and altering schedules, conducting credit checks, and
preparing all students to graduate on time with a post-secondary plan. As a school counselor, I
also know the importance of doing this work in a way that is relational, centered on student
motivations, and honors students’ cultures and identities. I also support students to feel safe
and heard through challenges such as homelessness, abuse, the death of a loved one, and
mental health issues.

My previous experience naturally led me to school counseling. I spent three years as a youth
and children’s advocate at the YWCA Pierce County, where I supported youth and families
impacted by domestic violence. There I also did prevention work through the creation and
facilitation of a 10-week, data-driven, healthy relationships curriculum that I delivered at local
high schools. Prior to that I spent two years working at Peace Community Center, an
educational non-profit, managing the after school tutoring and mentoring program, supporting
students to graduate on time and build postsecondary plans, and connecting with families in
the community.

I believe relationship building is at the core of holistic, proactive counseling, and I am grateful to
have had so many opportunities to build compassionate connections with youth. I hope to use
my experience to encourage and empower students to reach their highest potential.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to an opportunity to share more
about what I can offer to your students.

Sincerely,
Kelsey Fischer
