Honey Bee is the one type of insect which belongs to Apidae family. Honey Bees live by
colonizing. Because they live by colonizing, they’ve a unique way to talk to each other. They
communicating through dance. This dance was discovered in the 1940s by Karl von Frisch who
observed individual European honeybees when returning to a nest that was modified as a center
of observation
Honey Bee’s dance occur due to food stimulation. Every day, bees will spread their self from
colony to find food. As they see some foods, they will go back to their colony and tell their
colony if they’ve found food. And then, the other will following them. Actually, Honey Bees
have two type of dances which indicate the location of the food that they’ve found. First is
twisted dances which indicate that there is food nearby. Second is waggle dance is done when the
food is far away, and the dance will look alike number eight. The distance is indicated by the
amount of abdominal shake that is performed each time running straight. And the direction is
indicated by the angle to the vertical surface of the nest from running straight.
