The Legend of Santa Claus

Once upon a time lived a happy man named Vainamoinen. Vainamoinen was a man from

Finland who ruled all the people on earth. One day he came to his people with shocking news. In

front of thousands and thousands of people he got up from his throne.

“I have come to a decision. From today on I will no longer rule the world.” He said. The

crowd stood silently. All of the people had scared faces.

“Do not worry. When the time comes I shall give back to you.” He said. The crowd

started to become louder and louder in a mess. People argued, screamed, and some even fought.

It did not look good for Vainamoinen’s people. After the end of Vainamoinen, things started to

go bad. Diseases came to Finland, and so did poverty and sadness.

A couple of years later, as Vainamoinen realised what had happened he went back to his

promise. It was up to him to save Finland. During this time Vainamoinen lived in Korvatunturi, a

small snowy mountain. Vainamoinen wanted to be a new person. Instead of wearing regular

clothes, he put on a bright red coat and built a wooden sleigh. But how would he get around the

entire world? The only animals around him were reindeer. Not only did Vainamoinen have a

great connection with his people, he was also loved by animals. He approached a reindeer.

“How would you like to come with…” the reindeer stopped him and walked towards the

sleigh.

“I’d love to.” He replied. ‘Great’ Vainamoinen thought to himself.

“Is it okay if my friends come too?” the reindeer asked.

“Sure.” Vainamoinen responded with a smile. Just like that a pack of ten reindeer

appeared from a bush.

 “Let’s get going boys!”, Vainamoinen said. “Who knew it was so easy to get animals?”

With these 11 reindeer, Vainamoinen tied them to the sleigh. Then he handed them each a cup of

a glowing purple liquid. The reindeer drank them and there eyes started to glow. Vainamoinen

grabbed his old sack and hopped on. He slapped the leading reindeer with a stick and just like

that the pack started to fly.

Together this amazing team flew all around the world giving people medicine, toys, food,

and every other thing they needed. People were truly grateful. When the team returned to

Korvatunturi, they were all very very happy. They decided to do something like this every year

from December 24th to 25th, on Christmas. After this event took place, Vainamoinen became

known as Father Christmas or Santa Claus, and was respected throughout the world.
