When I moved to the US from Denmark I was relatively insecure and nervous about
living in this foreign culture and having to try to meet new people. I was also really self-aware of
my accent so I would try to talk as little as possible. Not many weeks went by before I was
already a lot more comfortable and found friends. I’ve come to kind of embrace my accent and
the culture clash as a part of who I am here, realizing that as long as I speak clearly, no-one is
bothered by my accent.
I wanna encourage you all to travel as much as you can find time and energy to. I don’t
mean going to a resort in Thailand but maybe going to a foreign city and just spend a few there.
It doesn’t have to be expensive, it could be a drive to another state or just somewhere with
another landscape. There’s so much to be discovered locally that doesn’t cost any plane tickets.
What i really wanna say is that traveling is so extremely healthy because it broadens our
horizon and our comfort zone, gives us real-life education, betters our social skills and keeps us
open-minded. I know some stubborn people who are ready to spend their whole life in their own
little corner of the world only caring about his and himself. This kind of behaviour breeds
prejudice, selfishness and fear of what’s foreign, so get out and learn about the world and teach
