The Houses of Parliament

The Houses of Parliament, otherwise known as the Palace of Westminster,

symbolises Great Britain. Its image adorns everything from souvenirs to sauce
bottles. And the decisions made in its corridors of power have shaped Britain, past
and present.
The Houses of Parliament is the Palace of Westminster, the meeting place of
the House of Commons and the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. It includes
the Clock Tower-known as Big Ben, Victoria Tower, House of Commons, House of
Lords, Westminster Hall and the Lobbies.
Commonly known as the Houses of Parliament after its occupants, the
Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in
central London, England. The Palace is one of the centres of political life in the
United Kingdom; "Westminster" has become a metonym for the UK Parliament,
and the Westminster system of government has taken its name after it. The Houses
of Parliament has become an iconic landmark of London and the United Kingdom
in general, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, and an emblem of
parliamentary democracy.
